Religion is something left over from the infancy of our intelligence, it will fade away as we adopt reason and science as our guidelines. - Bertrand Russell

I have an ethical question for the Couch, in which Dr Gobb’s expertise in things with wings may help.

I was walking the dogs in there park this morning while audienting. Passing a pond, I saw one duck troubling another. It’s unseasonably warm and I think the ducks feel spring coming, so are doing what ducks do.

However, I’ve read that duck fucking usually does not involve the consent of the female. I believe the duck penis arms race discussed by the Couch is wrapped up in the same non consent issue.

My question for the Couch - when you can see an animal being sexually assaulted by another member of its species like this, are you ethically obliged to intervene? If so, is the ethical duty reduced when intervening would involve wading through waist deep water?

I intervene when my dogs try to hump other dogs, but that’s more about my sense of vicarious shame, so not really a comparable scenario.

PS I’m talking about same species sexual assault here, not rugby-style bestiality.

“The pamphlet, declined for publication with the official Scott expedition reports, commented on the frequency of sexual activity, auto-erotic behaviour, and seemingly aberrant behaviour of young unpaired males and females, including necrophilia, sexual coercion, sexual and physical abuse of chicks and homosexual behaviour,” states the analysis written by Russell and colleagues William Sladen and David Ainley. “His observations were, however, accurate, valid and, with the benefit of hindsight, deserving of publication.”

A follow up on my duck fucking question from earlier this year. See below for an photo of the result I took this morning.

The more astute/pedantic among you will likely point out these are geese, hence the entire premise of my duck fucking question was in error.

Are these the same gucks/deese?

Same pond. Not sure 100% if they are the same who were involved in the original… fowl… deed.

Turns out I may not have been a bad bird spotter. The local ducks have now bred as well.
