It always seems impossible until it is done. - Nelson Mandela

Two thoughts around Harry’s recommendation of Stranger Things:

  • It glorifies the early 1980s via nostalgia. This was a terrible and crass time in history. A time of affluence and upward mobility driven by the baby boomer demographic, affluence characterised in mass culture by overt class-consciousness and class anxiety. The anxiety was self-medicated through overinflated ego, cocaine and Rodney Dangerfield. This is not an era we should gloss with nostalgia.

  • Winona Rider behaves like a heroin addict who has taken mephamphetamine by mistake.

Also, the Yamaha DX-7 had its time in the sun then and we have now moved beyond soundtracks filled with FM synthesis.

Winona Rider + teen loss of virginity in the 1980s. I like it, but this is nostalgia playing to the lower chakras…

I’m with Harry on this

personally, all the disdain Tholf has for the 1980’s I reserve for the 70’s - the music in particular

the DX7 was awesome and I challenge you to not love C64 SID chip music like this:
